By ferry to Amsterdam
The ferry is a really fun way to travel because you can expect a great experience on board while sailing through the night. After spending the night on the ferry, you can spend a full day in Amsterdam and then book one or more nights in the city itself. Since hotels can be quite expensive, a night on board – especially as a foot passenger on a mini cruise – is a very affordable option.
On board
On board, you can expect plenty of evening entertainment. There are several restaurants and bars, shops, a casino and even cinemas. There is also plenty to do for children. So, travelling from Hull to Amsterdam by ferry can be a really fun city trip.
This is just a small impression, but if you like, you can view photos of both ferries here.
Travelling to Amsterdam by car
If you travel from Hull with your own vehicle, you can disembark and continue on to Amsterdam. First, follow the A15 and signs for Rotterdam, and shortly afterwards, you’ll see Amsterdam signposted.
Please note that this route includes a toll road, where payment must be made online (there are no toll booths on the road itself). You can pay the toll either in advance or within 72 hours after travelling via www.e-tol.nl. The toll fee is only €1.51, but penalties for non-payment can be much higher.
It’s also possible to avoid the toll road by continuing on the A15 motorway. This detour adds only around five minutes to your journey, provided traffic is light.
To Amsterdam by ferry and bus
Travelling as a foot passenger to Amsterdam is also easy, thanks to the P&O shuttle bus service. We recommend booking this transfer in advance, as public transport options from the port are limited.
Without the shuttle, you would need to take a taxi to Rotterdam or Delft, and then continue by train to Amsterdam.
Alternatively, foot passengers can book a mini-cruise to Amsterdam, which includes a return ferry crossing and an overnight hotel stay in the city.
P&O Shuttle Bus
P&O Ferries operates a dedicated coach service from the Europoort terminal (Rotterdam) directly to Amsterdam. This service is not part of the regular public transport network and can be added when booking your ferry ticket. Mini-cruise passengers also use this transfer.
In Amsterdam, the bus stops near Piet Heinkade, close to both the city centre and Amsterdam Central Station.
- Please note that you must book the shuttle in advance, as seats are limited. Turning up at the terminal without a reservation is not recommended.
- Pets are not permitted on the shuttle service.
Shuttle Service Cost to Amsterdam
At the time of writing, the fare for the shuttle service to Amsterdam is approximately £12 per person.
