Getting to
Rotterdam city Centre
Discover the best ways to reach Rotterdam’s city centre from the ferry terminal, whether you’re driving, taking the shuttle, or exploring by public transport.
The port where you arrive is called Europoort, and the ferry terminal is located closer to the Dutch coast than to Rotterdam itself. So if you’d like to visit the city, you’ll have a short journey ahead. There are several ways to get there, but travelling by caror on theshuttle bus are the most logical options.
To Rotterdam
Drive to Rotterdam by car
By car or other private transportation, Rotterdam is easily accessible. The terminal is around 40 minutes away from the city centre. Depending on the ferry’s arrival time, traffic can be somewhat busy, but usually, the rush hour has passed by the time you arrive in Rotterdam.
From the P&O Terminal, Luxemburgweg 2, Europoort Rotterdam:
- Take the N15/A15 towards Rotterdam.
- Follow the signs for “Rotterdam”.
- After about 35–45 minutes, you’ll reach the city centre.
Skip the bus, choose the shuttle service
Public transport or shuttle bus
For those without a car who wish to use regular public transport, this is not recommended. It’s better to use the P&O coach service, which can be added when booking your ferry.
There is no direct public transport connection to Rotterdam. You can take bus 903, which runs through the port area and stops in the nearby town of Brielle, just south of the ferry terminal. From there, you can travel to Spijkenisse Metro Centrum (bus 403) or Schiedam Central Station (bus 102). From these stops, you can continue on to the city centre.
P&O Shuttle Bus (recommended)
P&O Ferries operates a shuttle bus service from the Europoort terminal (Rotterdam) to both Rotterdam and Amsterdam. This bus is not part of the regular public transport network; it is a coach transfer that can be booked together with your ferry ticket. Mini-cruise passengers also use this service.
For Rotterdam, the bus stops at the Conradstraat bus station, next to Rotterdam Central Station.
- You must book the shuttle in advance if you want to use it, just showing up at the terminal without a booking is risky.
- Pets are not allowed on the shuttle.
Shuttle Service cost
At the time of writing, the cost is £12 per person.
